Holy tapdancing power outage

Most of Alaska’s power went down. Apperently we(Alaska) lost a power generator  in Beluga. Which then caused a cascade of failure at all other power utilities due to the huge draw.

Great unit conversion site!

Someone from work pointed this site out to me. It can convert almost any reasonable unit of measure.

The tool contains a quite a list of unit conversions:

I was just notified that the commitee has selected another candidate. WTH. I don’t think the other networky guy got it either… And if that is the case, I wonder who actually got it!

I have recently taken an interest in cooking for some reason.

Maybe it is for health. Maybe it is for the $bling$ I will be saving from not eating out. I don’t know but I think I am liking it.

Based on a few recommendations, I have purchased Betty Crocker’s Cooking Basics: Learn to cook with Confidence.

I have tried two recipes out of it so far and have found them to be pretty easy to prepare for and make. The book takes time time to explain all the various cooking/preparing methods that you would use everyday. How to split open garlic, to brown a roast, what to look for in a steak, what items you’ll need to cook that meal.

The book also goes into what items you will need everyday in the kitchen, and what items you might find useful in certian situations. It really aims at the beginner cook, and strives to give you all the info to cook with confidence.

My next challenge is to cook a roast w/carrots and onions using a dutch oven. I hope it turns out ok. My father used to make the best roasts and gravy. Too bad I never took the time to learn from his experience cooking.

Well I had an interview on Thursday

It was for a promotion at work and I think I blew them away with how dedicated and knowledgable I am in regards to networking. We came to the last few questions about “Have you ever mentored co-workers or other professionals?” And I went into how I am always discussing networking on my own time here at work after I get off shift, and how I am always helping people on Ars and the Cisco Users Mailing List.

An exchange after I explaining my mentoring experience:

Interviewer: “I never understood that.”
Me: “What?”
I:” I never understood why people would discuss stuff like that on their own time. It just doesn’t make sense. Do they find it fun or something?”
M:”Yes, I do. I love to find out about new features and what solutions they provide for customers. Networking is my thing, and I know alot of other people like me that love the technology and logic behind resolving issues.”

Yeah, he thought I was strange. But I think I impressed everyone greatly. I really hope i get it!
