Paranoia Agent Volume 2
Just finished watching Paranoia Agent Vol 2. and it is captivating. PA is directed by Satoshi Kon, who also directed Millennium Actress, Perfect Blue and Tokyo Godfathers. All of his movies never offer fanservice, aliens, or huge explosions. Just the most evil monster in the world, ourselves.
The story in PA follows two cops that have been assigned to solve a case involving a rash of assaults on seemingly unrelated people. As they dig deeper into the mystery they find that the victims are all under extreme stress of one form or another and were having issues dealing with them.
The movie is a very introspective look at what people hold dear to their hearts and how they react when those ideas are threatened. Everyone is under stress of some fashion or another, but we never really let other people know what we are feeling. Only when we are alone, either in reality or in our mind, do we truly show our intent.
PA shows how people deal with this stress, and what will attempt to relieve them of their burden.
And then… *swish*
Onto volume 3, once it arrives from NetFlix.
